As the New York Giants inch closer to their playoff aspirations, second-year wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is emerging as a pivotal asset in their offensive arsenal. Entering the NFL as a third-round pick from Tennessee, Hyatt has delivered performances that belie his draft position and experience.
A Determined Journey
To maintain his edge in a physically demanding league, the 6-foot, 185-pound wideout has taken a unique approach toward bulking up. "It's definitely hard for myself (to gain weight). Some guys, it's easier for them to gain weight or gain muscle. For myself, it's harder. I burn a lot of calories quick. I'm just one of those guys that's got to just keep eating," Hyatt admits.
One might wonder about the secret weapon in his diet plan: Uncrustables. These frozen, individually wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches have become an unconventional yet strategic choice. "PB&J's was one of my biggest things, because you want to eat your full meal. You don't want to eat a little bit and drink a protein shake. Then you're not really getting anything. So, for myself, finishing, completing your full meals, and then, an hour later or 30 minutes later, that's when you put in an Uncrustables or a PB&J or a little protein shake," he elaborates.
Impactful Performances
Hyatt's dietary efforts appear to be paying dividends on the field. His performance has not gone unnoticed, particularly in crucial moments that have helped solidify the Giants' standing. In Week 2 of the 2023 season, fans witnessed his game-changing 58-yard reception, a pivotal contribution in the team's tight three-point victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
His knack for rising to the occasion was further showcased in Week 7, when he hauled in two catches for 75 yards, aiding in New York's 14-7 triumph over the Washington Commanders. However, Hyatt's defining moment came during Week 12 against the New England Patriots. It was here that he recorded his first 100-yard receiving game in the NFL, a milestone that significantly influenced the Giants' narrow win.
A Vision for Success
Amidst these personal triumphs, Hyatt remains steadfast in his commitment to team goals. "For me, I always set high expectations. Just looking at our team, looking at what we got—for goals, I just want a team goal. We have a playoff team. That's what we want to do. That's our focus and we're gonna get there," he states with unwavering confidence.
Hyatt's blend of individual dedication and team-oriented mindset exemplifies a professional athlete who understands both his role and the collective ambition of his squad. The Giants, bolstered by his contributions, continue to aim high, and Hyatt seems set on ensuring they reach their intended destination.
As the season unfolds, the eyes of Giants fans will undoubtedly be on Jalin Hyatt, the young receiver whose methodical preparation and standout play could well make him a key figure in the team's pursuit of playoff glory.
